How long did Levi live?
Circumcision Mohel is interested in this week’s sedra VAERA.
Shemos 6,16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon and Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty and seven years.
טז וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי-לֵוִי, לְתֹלְדֹתָם–גֵּרְשׁוֹן, וּקְהָת וּמְרָרִי;
וּשְׁנֵי חַיֵּי לֵוִי, שֶׁבַע וּשְׁלֹשִׁים וּמְאַת שָׁנָה.
To which added: and Levi lived until he saw Moshe and Aharon (Targum Yonason ben Uziel). Was it that specifically Levi is mentioned since he merited to see Moshe and Aharon?
The Torah is stating that Levi lived an 137 additional years in Egypt, plus 43 years old on arrival in Egypt, making a total of 180 years. Then Moshe aged 7 and Aharon aged 10 when Levi died.
Levi lived 180 years the same number of years as Isaac. The reason for Levi longevity because the tribe of Levi never stopped circumcision Mohel bris Milah in Egypt or the 40 years in Midbar wilderness. Circumcision mohel bris Milah is rewarded with longevity. Isaac lived 180 because he had bris on the eight day-there are 180 hours from birth to bris on the eighth day. This explains Isaac and Levi lived 180 years.
